Lilia's story actually began earlier, two generations before her birth. At that time, the county of House Mielżyński extended over the entire northern Poland. So it was no wonder that Lilia's grandfather was able to obtain a female member of one of the oldest Denmark families as a wife for his only son, Aleksander. When this happened, he and Hilda were still babies. A few years later, the woman also moved to Poland and grew up here. It happened at this time when Leslaw's father, the old count, was still alive.
The count baron made a huge mistake because he made a deal with a hag, supposedly to live longer or to be cured of his illness. That wasn't the end of it, he wanted out of the deal and tried to kill the hag. The witch survived and cursed him and his entire bloodline. According to which, within two generations, the family will lose everything and the bloodline will end. First the old baron's wife died, then his three sons and two daughters, together with the whole family, with all of their descendants. The old baron went mad and committed suicide.
However, the curse did not end, and two years later both Leslaw and Maryja died. Only the child Aleksander and Hilda survived. Various regents ruled until the young man was old enough. However, without strong leadership, the family slowly lost its territories and its wealth. By the time Aleksander was finally able to claim the title of count, by then only three baronies were in their domain, included barony of Przeklęty. The man didn't believe in the curse, only his wife. Despite this, they tried to have children. In twelve years, sixteen children were born to them, all of whom died before the age of two or three, except one.
Lilianna was born as the thirteenth child in the family, only a few minutes later than her twin-brother, Tancred. Since the child mortality rate in the noble house was extremely high, the little girl was not even given a name. They didn't want to write a name on a tombstone. Like all children in the family, as she approached the age of two or three, her golden hair turned to silver and she became ill. The little girl was already dying when a travelling priest, Niegan Pietraszek, visited the northern region. Hilda invited him to see if he could do something. So far, they have only tried with pagan healers, but not with the followers of the new religion. Niegan was not a magic user and could only use prayers and general healing methods, however his prayers somehow broke the heathen hag's curse. The little girl's condition began to improve and she finally recovered.
It was precisely for this reason that the family converted from the ancient pagan faith to this religion, and Lilia was also brought up according to this religion (Christianity). She had a few more siblings, but they also died due to the curse. And the curse cannot be broken while the hag is alive. That's when the girl got her name, Lilianna. and from then on, they took great care of her, more than anyone else, since she was the last chance to keep the family and the bloodline from disappearing. She could do almost nothing alone, she was accompanied everywhere by guards and her teachers. The little girl didn't like this very much and often ran away to play with the peasants' children.
The girl saw knights at a very young age and already then decided that she wanted to be a knight, so that she would serve Poland that way. This dream of her never faded and later on defined her life. Since she couldn't go anywhere much, she acquired a lot of knowledge from books. She was a dreamer, she could spend hours or days reading and she also loved the arts. She tried several times to ask her parents to let her learn to fight - her Nordic, Viking blood was very, very visible in this - but they didn't want to hear about it. The only thing they allowed her to do was learn, it was horse-riding.
She also only heard about the horrors of the world from the priests or soldiers who passed through their estates while they went to war with other nations and empires. However, her parents did everything to ensure that she did not know about them. They believed that a girl should not get involved in politics or fighting, that would be her husband's task. Lilia hated it all. As she grew older, her parents allowed her to attend audiences, or even to talk to the people of the barony, to help solve and remedy their problems.
The citizens and serfs quickly liked the girl who was very sensitive to their concerns and problems, compassionate and helpful. Who, by the way, treated them very modestly, attentively and devotedly. During this time, she also made some friends from the peasant circles, as the rest of the nobility was very boring for the girl quite a bit. They were interested in wealth and the like, they were interested in how they could rule over the people or how they could find a good husband. Lilia was not interested in these things, she was more interested in helping others and, of course, being able to fight for Poland at some point, in some form.
She may have been quite old, almost sixteen, when her parents informed her that they had found a husband for her. A very good and wealthy husband, a prince, with whom the family can finally regain its old titles, influence and title. And of course, it is a huge prestige that the only daughter of an impoverished Count family can be the wife of a very high ranking noble. Needless to say, Lilianna wasn't keen on the idea. She hadn't even met the prince at all, the meeting would only have taken place on the day of the wedding. However, the young girl did not wait for this. She stole her own horse and ran away from home, heading into the unknown, as she had never left the Przeklęty barony before.
For her religion alone, the young girl did not stop until she reached the Holy Roman Empire. Here she knew no one, so she moved mainly around the churches, learning much and serving the church humbly. In the meantime, she learned that her brother had gone to the Holy Land as a crusader. The girl wanted to join Tancred, so she headed east. Her family's men found her, but fortunately she did not have to return home for the time being, but was given diplomatic duties on behalf of her father. It was then that she began to practice this, but she did not succeed very well. She was too pure, naive and good for that.
She ended up in combat, where she nursed and treated patients. That's where she learned a lot about it too. In the end, however, the girl could not escape her fate and the girl's parents managed to find someone who might be interested in the young girl for marriage, despite the shame of her running away from her first marriage. With a larger entourage, the girl returned to the Holy Roman Empire, where she met Karl von Osthaus, nearly ten years her senior, who was just beginning to look for a wife, approaching the age of thirty. She hatched a plan to make him hate her and thus avoid the marriage.
But in the end it didn't work out, because he liked the fact that she was very religious, not interested in the political games, but modest and reserved, and of course that she wanted to be a warrior. At first Lilia and Karl were just friends, she accompanied him to the Holy Land, which was only a short journey, and they returned home to the man's estates defeated. During that time, they became best friends and confidants here. And during the fights, as she learned to sword fight from him, they grew closer and fell in love. She was very embarrassed about her feelings and it conflicted with her religious upbringing, so on the way home she told him she was leaving because she didn't want to have sinful thoughts.
Karl felt the same and asked her to marry him, and she said yes. Although it was many months before the engagement was announced, she stayed at his court and continued her studies. The official announcement of the engagement was finally made close to her twenty birthday. As for the couple, they were both so deeply religious that they had known each other for about a year by now, but they hadn't even kissed yet, they didn't want to do that.
About six months later, when Lilia reached her twentieth birthday, they had the wedding they had both been waiting for. But something happened that changed her life forever. She said the wedding itself was perfect, she and Karl finally got to kiss; their first kiss. After the wedding, the ball went on for a long time, and the girl was both excited and scared about her wedding night. But it never happened. Unknown persons attacked the wedding feast, and Karl and several other knights went after the attackers to capture them and pay for their crimes, for they had killed several people.
But they never returned. The next day the bodies of the slain knights were found in the woods near the castle, but Karl was not among them. Several people saw that the attacking party had taken some prisoners and taken them away with them, including the Lord. Lilia "sensed" rather she believed that her husband was alive and did her best to find him, she began to investigate and set out to find him herself. She followed the trail that led her out of the Holy Roman Empire and into the Kingdom of Hungary, into the eastern part of the Kingdom, Transylvania. Of course, she also sent a letter to her brother Tancred, asking him, if he could, to come home and help her, as she was in great need of his support.
The young girl came to an area where she had never been and knew no one, a region where she had no allies. It was in such a place that she had to find her missing husband, she was confident that she would succeed and she asked God to help her in this mission and task...

Saint
You feel the pain of those around you and strive to ease their suffering. You give freely of your time, your belongings and whatever else it takes to increase the happiness of others. This often places you in a position of martyrdom, so complete is your altruism. Your own happiness is secondary to that of others. You can become so obsessed with your cause that you endanger yourself. However, you would never do anything that might bring harm to others. You exemplify a life of simple faith and charity, encouraging others to do the same, unlike the Martyr, who undertakes his sacrifice alone.
Quest: Whenever you protect someone else or alleviate their suffering, you regain Willpower.
Ban: Never knowingly cause distress or harm to anyone.
Caregiver
You always try to help those around you, struggling to make a difference in the needs and sorrows of the unfortunate. People around you depend on your stability and strength to keep them steady and centred. You are the one people turn to when they have a problem.
Quest: Regain Willpower whenever you successfully protect or nurture someone else. It can be as small as a smile of support or a shoulder to lean on at an appropriate moment. You must help the other person in some way, though he need not acknowledge it openly.
Ban: Never refuse an offer to help someone in need.

Merits:
- Literacy (1 point): You are a learned scholar, able to both read and write. The Merit assumes that you can read and write with fluency in your native tongue, as well as Latin and any languages you may have gained through the Multi-Lingual Merit. In some chronicles, literacy can be assumed. In these cases, Illiteracy becomes a 1-point Flaw.
- Lingua Franca (1 point): You are able to speak a mixed language made of common tongues that most people you encounter will understand. You may not be able to hold philosophical discussions, but you can navigate your way through conversations in most places and will be able to communicate sufficiently in dire situations.
- True Love (4 points): Transcendent love binds you to another and vice versa. You have the kind of relationship found only in legends and bard song. There is nothing you would not do for each other. This depthless, unconditional love grants you tremendous might, making you able to overcome impossible obstacles. Once per story, you may automatically succeed on any one roll, no matter how many successes it would require, so long as it is done on your beloved's behalf. If your lover is a Storyteller character, he or she may do the same as if he or she possessed this Merit. If your lover is another player character, he or she must also take this Merit. True Love is not one-sided. (Karl von Osthaus)
Flaws:
- Dark Secret (1 point): She ran away from a marriage before marrying Karl / relatives on her mother's side of the family are allegedly up to shady practices (Halla)
- Nightmares (1 point): When you sleep, nightmares invade your dreams. Terrible images assault your mind, leaving you anxious and breathless upon waking. When you wake, make a Willpower roll. If you fail, the horror of your dreams haunts you, decreasing your dice pools for all actions by one until you next sleep.
- Outsider (1 point): This is not your native land; this is not your mother tongue. You are not from around here. Everything is strange and different, from the customs to the food. You struggle with the area's native language (though you can get by with a purchase of the Lingua Franca Merit) and the difficulty to applicable Social rolls increases by one.
- Cursed (3 points): The family curse that makes Lilia's hair grey or Tancred look like he has a leper. Two generations earlier, the entire family was cursed, which is supposed to result in the family dying out within two generations. All of Lilia's siblings (except Tancred) died as infants because of the curse. Lilia is not in good health because of the curse, she gets sick easily. If she ever gets pregnant, there is a very high rate of miscarriages or her child being stillborn. This is also a consequence of the curse.

APPEARANCELilia is quite tall and thin. She inherited all of these from the Hyrrokkin bloodline, as it is quite a strong trait and heritage with them. The young woman was originally born with blonde hair, but her hair turned completely silver by the time she was about three years old. All of this is due to the curse, which Niegan Pietraszek successfully broke. A few blonde strands returned to her silver hair then, but her hair has remained silver ever since. This is accompanied by blue eyes.
The girl typically likes to wear masculine clothes, she is more used to the clothes of the common people, since her family has become impoverished due to the curse, so they can afford noble, classy clothes mainly only on holidays or important events. The girl usually wears white and blue clothes, her noble outfit also has quite a lot of khaki, along with deer antlers, as this is the family symbol.
Despite the masculine or even poorer clothes, she does not forget that she often covers her hair with a scarf or a veil, as noble ladies often do. For her, this is a symbol of virginity and she also considers it important for religious reasons. -

STRENGTHSCompassionate: Lilia is quite compassionate, although her biggest dream is to become a knight, she may be too soft-hearted for that. She often forgives others or takes pity on others. Maybe this is because of her religious upbringing, or it stems from her character, no one knows it. But anyone can turn to the girl for help or a friendly word, they will get it from Lilia.
Humble: Even though she is a noble, she isn't arrogant but quite modest. In this regard, she adheres strictly to religious matters and lives a modest life in this spirit. She is not really used to wealth and luxury, nor does she expect these. Under average conditions, she feels much better.
Honest: Humble behaviour also includes honesty. She always tries to be honest with everyone. For this reason, many people in their own baronies respect her, but understandably there are those who may be offended by her honest words.
Chaste: In part, this can also be traced back to religiosity, that the girl lives an extremely modest life. She wears traditional clothing, often even veiling her hair or hiding it under a scarf. She doesn't flirt with men, she is polite and mostly distant from them in this area. She tries to do everything possible so that her behaviour cannot be misunderstood.
WEAKNESSESImpatient: In her case, it doesn't mean that she has no patience with people or anything else. Rather, she is unable to stay calm. She always has to do something, she feels the urge to occupy herself with something.
Stubborn: That doesn't really have to be explained, she is stubborn as a mule. What she comes up with once, or in her head, has to be that way. It is very difficult to convince her otherwise. Although she never wants to do anything bad, she may achieve it with her stubbornness.
Ambitious: This is related to her biggest dream, as Lilia wants to be one of Poland and the Holy Roman Empire's greatest knightsone day. For this very reason, she even neglects her duties as a noble, that is, she refuses to marry, because the most important thing for her is to serve Poland and the Holy Roman Empire. And she wants to do this not in the birthing room, but on the battlefield. That's why she even ran away from home. For her, becoming a knight is the first thing, everything else is secondary.
Naive: Back home in the Przeklęty barony, not much happens, and most of the girl's experience is theoretical, not practical. That is why she very often imagines the world as she has read it in books. Due to this, she may seem dreamy and childish. Court intrigues are completely unknown to her and she has no experience in this field.
NEUTRALReligious: Lilia received a very religious upbringing, as is common in their barony. She owes her modesty, compassion and willingness to help anyone to this upbringing. However, it can often be a disadvantage, as she forgives everyone and is too polite and lenient, which is not the best for a noblewoman.
Great Knowledge: As a noble, constantly kept in a golden cage, she read a lot and had excellent teachers. Thanks to this, her knowledge is quite diverse. However, the disadvantage is that the theoretical knowledge has squeezed the practical knowledge and the girl has little practical knowledge. Theoretical knowledge often does not replace what could only be achieved through practice.
Devoted: Lilia is fiercely devoted to the people of her family's barony to all of Poland and the Holy Roman Empire. She would do anything to protect them and serve her home. Although not like a noblewoman, the young woman wants to be a knight. Because she is stubborn and committed, she seems rebellious and impolite in the eyes of many. She just follows what her heart tells her to do.
Blessed: The Mielżyńsk family was cursed by a hag two generations earlier, but a former priest, now cardinal Niegan Pietraszek, was able to break the curse on the now young woman, and thanks to this, the girl is still alive today. However, the curse was replaced by a blessing, thanks to which special abilities appeared in the girl (she doesn't know about them at the start of the game, because they haven't appeared yet). -
SKILLS / ABILITIESLilia, despite growing up in great isolation, gained a great deal of knowledge thanks to her teachers and to the family's library.
Theoretical Knowledge
- Theological / religious knowledge
- Historical knowledge, heraldry
- Diplomacy and etiquette
- Lexical knowledge
- Reading / writing
- Riding
- Healing physical injuries (people, animals)
- Sewing
- And usually noble woman traits and knowledge.
- Fencing (beginner)
-
SPECIAL CAPABILITIESQuick Learner: Lilia is quite a smart girl and has good skills. Thanks to these and this ability, she is able to learn new things quite quickly, be it theoretical or practical knowledge.
Wish to Help: Lilia is quite humble and selfless and likes to help others whenever possible, as is part of her religion. She is quite easily able to tune in to the feelings and desires of others and thus empathize with them. Basically, the girl has very high empathy and good intuition. -
